The Bring The Wing crew had a great time in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware this past weekend at day two of the Third Annual Peppers Tailgate Party at the Beach. Chileheads from all over came out in crowds to sample sauces and other products from vendors across the country. We were among famous chefs and authors, and even witnessed a Guinness World Record being broken right in front of our eyes.
Hosted by Chip “The King Of Wings” Hearn from Peppers, home of the undisputed largest collection of hot sauces in the world, this event had everything a wing enthusiast could want. We were able to meet and greet with famous chefs while sampling their products, and everyone at the event got to eat FREE WINGS provided by Mountaire Farms. It was a great time with great people, and we would like to thank Chef Chip Hearn for welcoming us in to experience this event. Chip is a multiple national champion as a chef and for his sauces, salsas, rubs, and dips. If you are in the Rehoboth Beach area, you will definitely want to stop into Peppers to see the awesome variety of sauces they have to offer.
Included in the festivities were various wing competitions in which our very own Brian got to judge the “Best Buffalo Style Chicken Wings” category. There were over 20 wing platters entered in this category, and although they all had a unique style and flavor to offer, only one could take the Cup. The trophy, a cleverly designed beer glass with chicken wings sticking out of it, was presented to Suzanne’s Kitchen for her “Heavenly Wings in Hell.” Needless to say, Brian was full after judging this event, but after a short rest, he was back in action visiting the vendors’ stations to sample even more wings and sauces.
The diversity of the vendors was a great surprise as we got to try hot pepper infused chocolates from The Madison Chocolatiers West, Bloody Mary mix from The Murph’s Famous, and jalapeno chips from Deano’s Jalapenos in addition to the standard sauces and rubs you would expect to find. There was also a live cooking demonstration from former Chopped contestant Chef Johnny McLaughlin of Heartbreaking Dawns. And as an added bonus, we even witnessed history in the making when Steve “The Machine” Smallwood demolished the previous world record of 3 ghost peppers by eating 8 ghost peppers in 1 minute! Then a short while later, he proceeded to set a new record by eating 8 Trinidad Scorpion peppers in 1 minute. From beginning to end, this day was filled with action and excitement, and a good time was had by all.
Overall, we have to say that this was hands-down the BEST smelling parking lot we have ever visited, and we can’t wait to do it again next year. Check out our photos below to see highlights from this event, and click here to watch our video.
