The Cabin

Friday, July 17th, 2015

The Cabin is a restaurant in Freehold, NJ right off of Rt. 33, and the name is definitely fitting as it looks like just that…. a cabin. This rustic spot was suggested to me by a man who goes by Cash using our Suggest A Joint. I do not hide the fact that I am a big fan of Pic-A-Lilli Inn, and as a former South Jerseyan himself, Cash claims that when he misses his home town, The Cabin is there to fill the void with great wings that remind him of The Pic. North Brunswick Pub

The North Brunswick Pub, or just “The Pub” as it’s known by the locals, is the place where people would go to kick back, unwind, and have a great time. Growing up in Jersey, I’ve been there a bunch of times and it was always packed almost elbow to elbow. So when the time came to meet up with an old friend and grab some grub, the decision was easy: Hop on Rt. 1 and head for The Pub (rhyme).

The Pub is a decent sized place with a large bar area which is great if you like sitting at a stool like myself. It seems that times have changed, however, as I stopped in on a Saturday night and the place was dead. Bad if I came to socialize, but great if I came to eat some wings because this meant quick service. :) And come for wings, I did. So, I took a menu and looked over the options. (read more…)

I recently got a “Suggest a Joint” request from Sharlene who told me that I needed to stop into Alstartz because their wings are great. From the outside this restaurant looked like a huge sports bar with tons of square footage and parking to boot. However, when I went inside, the décor and host greeting threw me a bit as it was more of a sophisticated and upper scale sports club, which I wasn’t prepared for. I almost felt under dressed, but I have to say that it was a nice surprise seeing how I was with my family, and sitting in a classier place is always welcome. With that said, the very next thing (read more…)

Alden Cafe

I’m a big fan of local neighborhood bars for the same reason I love going to a friend’s party. Even though I don’t know a lot of the people, everyone seems to welcome you into their little world with smiles. Chain restaurants are very mechanical with the way they bring you in, feed you, and tell you to leave. This is unlike the Alden Cafe, that was a “Suggest a Joint” from Ed, because from the moment I walked in until the time that I left, there was only good feelings spread around the bar. I like the personal attention and impromptu conversations that pop up like “How do you spell Gouda?” or “Since when did they start naming snow storms?” But as pleasant as all this may seem, that’s not the reason for my visit. I hear they have great wings, and I’m going to find out if that’s true. (read more…)

Golden Nugget Tavern

Saturday, February 8th, 2014

When talking about where to get great wings in South Jersey, there are always a bunch of names that constantly get repeated in the “Ya know where you gotta go, man…” conversation. Some of them include: Jug Handle Inn, Pic-A-Lilli’s, and 45th Street Pub. But there is another that shows up in that list which proved a bit harder to go out and review.

The Golden Nugget is located in Berlin, NJ and was always known by locals for having great wings. The reason this proved difficult to review… The building burned down. It seemed that one night an irate customer who was kicked out of the pub earlier (read more…)
