I’m a big fan of local neighborhood bars for the same reason I love going to a friend’s party. Even though I don’t know a lot of the people, everyone seems to welcome you into their little world with smiles. Chain restaurants are very mechanical with the way they bring you in, feed you, and tell you to leave. This is unlike the Alden Cafe, that was a “Suggest a Joint” from Ed, because from the moment I walked in until the time that I left, there was only good feelings spread around the bar. I like the personal attention and impromptu conversations that pop up like “How do you spell Gouda?” or “Since when did they start naming snow storms?” But as pleasant as all this may seem, that’s not the reason for my visit. I hear they have great wings, and I’m going to find out if that’s true. (read more…)

When talking about where to get great wings in South Jersey, there are always a bunch of names that constantly get repeated in the “Ya know where you gotta go, man…” conversation. Some of them include: Jug Handle Inn, Pic-A-Lilli’s, and 45th Street Pub. But there is another that shows up in that list which proved a bit harder to go out and review.
The Golden Nugget is located in Berlin, NJ and was always known by locals for having great wings. The reason this proved difficult to review… The building burned down. It seemed that one night an irate customer who was kicked out of the pub earlier (read more…)
While out in the Chicago area, I decided to pay a visit to a wing chain called Wingstop that has been growing across the nation. Locations are typically in strip malls, and it seems that their primary target is take-out. But this doesn’t mean you can’t sit down to enjoy your food because there are a few tables that allow you to do just that. Out of the many locations sprinkled throughout Chicago alone, I decided to hit up their North Lakes branch because they have the largest sit-down section (as per other locations that I called).
Inside reminded me of a fast food restaurant with the way the seating was arranged, though they strongly stress that their wings are NOT fast food – they are made to order. This is proven by (read more…)
Recovery Sports Grill is located in Burlington County, and just so happens to be near a friend of mine. Some time not too long ago, that friend and I popped into this sports themed restaurant to see how their wings fared. Everything was going great until good conversation and many pints pushed my wing tasting to the back seat and ultimately got lost in the night. So when the time came where I found myself back in that same area (this time with family), I didn’t hesitate to return to the Recovery to finish what I started. (read more…)
45th Street Pub is a small bar tucked right off Rt. 130 in Pennsauken that boasts incredible food. Not only do they have a 24lb burger with a 9″ bun, but they also offer a plethora of wing variations to suit almost every need. So, when my buddy Adam suggested this place for our lunch stop, he didn’t have to twist my arm to get me in there.
We made our way in the door and over to the u-shaped bar to grab some grub. But, the real question remained: How good are the wings? Just because you boast good food, doesn’t mean (read more…)
