Quaker Steak & Lube is a chain restaurant that started in the seventies as an effort to preserve the look and feel of old style gas stations and muscle cars. They do this so diligently by having old hot rods lifted above the dining room along with Harleys spinning from the ceiling. But the only way to enjoy these pleasures is to get inside. This proved rather difficult for me seeing how Quaker Steak & Lube restaurants are sprinkled around the country and hadn’t made it’s way to New Jersey….yet. 11th Annual National Buffalo Wing Festival

The National Buffalo Wing Festival celebrated its 11th birthday this Labor Day weekend as Buffalo wing enthusiasts from 43 states and 30 countries flocked to Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, New York to sample hundreds of styles of wings and even chicken wing soup. The two-day event, which was inspired by the 2001 movie Osmosis Jones in which Bill Murray’s character dreams of visiting Buffalo for a chicken wing festival, was created in 2002 by Wing King Drew Cerza, and over the years has served more than 4 million wings and raised over $200,000 for local charities. Bring The Wing couldn’t pass up the opportunity to participate in this event, so we traveled the seven hours to Buffalo to cover the festival and to join in on all of the fun.

The Chicken or the Egg in Beach Haven is well known not only locally, but also nationwide for having one of the most ridiculous challenges out there… The Ludicrous Challenge!! It got its nationwide notoriety when “Man vs. Food” star Adam Richman took on this insane challenge by eating 12 of the restaurant’s “Ludicrous” wings within 15 minutes. Locally, they are also very well known for being one of the best breakfast nooks in the area… hence the name: The Chicken or the Egg.

We’ve all seen these food challenges on TV made popular by shows such as Man V. Food, but where can a die-hard wing-eater go to take on these challenges and possibly win some free wings and fame in the process? Below is a list of Wing Eating Challenges in restaurants across the United States that are not for the faint of heart. Some of these challenges even require you to sign a waiver! Atomic Hot Wing Challenge

The Atomic Hot Wing Challenge can be found at Quaker Steak & Lube locations across the country. Participants must sign a waiver to take part in this challenge that requires you to eat 6 wings covered in their Atomic Sauce which carries a heat level of 150,000 SHU. There is no time limit to this challenge, however, no drinks are permitted. Winners receive their name on the Wall of Flame as well as a bumper sticker.

Blazin’ Challenge
